Hello Happy Time Squares Members:
Report for Boots Bows & Barbeque - August 25, 2012
On Saturday, August 25, Happy Time Squares had a great party!!! Eighty one HTS members were joined by one hundred and eighty six guests. Dancers came from clubs in Kansas and the Heart of America Square Dance Federation. It was an evening of fun and fellowship!
Members arrived early to help set up tables and chairs and to help decorate. More came to help with the cooking. A lot of members arrived with relish plates and desserts in hand. Members cut and served desserts, set and replenished the food table, bussed tables, did dishes, worked the check-in tables, set up and replenished beverages, carved meat, and packaged or sold leftover meat. Many stayed after the dance to take down tables, stack chairs, remove decorations, carry out trash and dry mop the floor. It took a complete club effort to fulfill all these various tasks that needed to be done to make our BBQ a success. Many, many thanks to each of our members who helped during this barbeque.
We would be remiss if we did not recognize some individuals for their contributions. Rosalee & Bob Rainbolt and their decorating committee did a fantastic job of carrying out our Boots, Bows & Barbeque theme. Stan Zaremba was our head chef again this year, with his incomparable pork roast. At Stan's side were Frank Alexander and a seasoned crew who provided the very popular homemade French Fries. Lois Zaremba and Betty Alexander coordinated the setup of the serving tables and made sure the tables stayed full. Betty Lucas who helped with coordinating the drinks.
Following a delicious dinner, the festivities began with Judy & Gene Broers who led a full floor of members and guests in line dancing. Vernon Nelson cued several rounds, with lots of dancers participating.
Vic Perry our GREAT club caller invited members and guests to participate in an introduction to Square Dancing. We had so many individuals we had to form two circles. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed a half hour of learning some basic square dance moves and dancing to a singing tip.
Red and black boots swirled above heads of 14 squares as they began the Grand March at 7:30pm for an evening of Mainstream and one plus tip of great square dancing. Between tips Vernon Nelson and Judy Broers treated dancers to enthusiastic round or line dances with many dancers filling the floor.
During announcements, HTS recognized Stan & Lois Zaremba, along with Betty & Frank Alexander for their outstanding contribution to our Boots, Bows & Barbeque with the traditional yellow mums, and a our heartfelt thanks. Recognition was also given to all the club members who sold tickets. A special "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" was announced to Robert Mugridge who was also presented with a birthday card full of happy birthday wishes.
Someone may want to claim their silver round serving platter and a small round silver bowl which was left at the dance.
What a GREAT party and what a GREAT club!!
